"We cheered when the owners of Tamarind bought Zaika, and they have resurrected the veteran Indian with new vigour."
Zaika first opened its doors back in 1999 but it wasn’t until 2012 that it joined the ranks of Tamarind Collection, reopening as Zaika in 2014. Since then, it has earned two AA rosettes and become one of the most distinguished and celebrated Indian restaurants in London.
True to its name, Zaika of Kensington stands for indulgent subcontinental cuisine and is housed inside a stunning property; a former bank overlooking Hyde Park and neighbouring The Royal Albert Hall.
Under the guidance of Head Chef Shoeb Haider, Zaika has established itself as one of the best places to eat in Kensington, serving some of the best Indian food in London. The flavours of Awadh, Northern India, and the indulgent traditions of its historic palace kitchens are the focus of its kitchen, who deliver masterful takes on the region’s signature dishes using timeless cooking techniques such as dum pukht. Biryanis, Lucknow-style kababs and curries take precedence on menus which also include fine wines, cocktails and other beverages.
With cathedral-like high ceilings and artful flourishes in the form of silk drapes and wood panelling, the space itself is a feast for the senses. Zaika makes a lovely setting for a romantic meal or grander occasion. A semi-private dining area is also available for hire.
